Jim Shields

A Biography

Born in the North East, Jim Shields was in what he describes as the "people business" for 40 years. He first entered the high profile world of aviation in 1959 when he joined a small airline called BKS Air Transport at Newcastle Airport.

In those days Newcastle Airport was very different from the multi-million pound operation that it is today - in fact it was a collection of wooden huts. But he soon discovered that when people become "passengers" they do strange things.

When BKS eventually became part of British Airways, with Jim as their Airport Manager, people's behaviour continued to fascinate him and he discovered that his stories amused colleagues at work and friends at his local golf club. His ability to inject humour into corporate presentations was quickly recognised and he was soon in demand as an After Dinner Speaker.

Recently retired after a career of more than 30 years as an Airline Manager, he is now enjoying extending the After Dinner role and the opportunity it gives him to comment on his experiences on "the inside of the airline world".

Event organisers and secretaries can relax, the Chairman's wife will not be offended as he demonstrates that truth is not only stranger than fiction - it's funnier as well!

Ideal for the black tie corporate dinner or to help wind down at the end of a training seminar, although as a Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing he is equally comfortable with motivational presentations to sales or customer services groups.
